Hi all

I have bought a new padded lower dash rail trim from MiniSpares, together with the chrome trim strip and clips, for a 1981 Mini.

Any advice on how this should be fitted in detail?

It looks like the dash trim is just glued in place. Any thoughts on a suitable adhesive?

Then under the dash rail, the trim is just cut to size to make things tidy. There are no clips.

On top of the dash rail, the trim is cut back level with the rear edge of the dash rail?

Push the clips on to the back of the dash rail, over the rail and glued on dash trim. With the raised bump on one side of the clip is on top.

Tap the chrome trim on to the clips. Having tried a clip in the trim, tap is probably not the right word, more bash.

Once done can the chrome trim and dash trim ever be removed, without being damaged in the process?

Thanks

Dave

The top edge of the padded dash rail is normally hooked over the metal rail. The should be fitted smooth side upwards.

Where the heater sits once again, you will normally find the plastic of the rail is hooked over the metal.

I don't know how disassembled your car is, but if the switch panel is in place be careful when fitting the new rail over this.

Evo stick or Thixofix or the like should be fine but normally this is only to hold the bottom in place.

Hi 62S

The MiniSpares dash trim has the foam extruded into the trim well past the line of the metal dash rail. This makes it difficult to fold the trim over the dash rail. The trim that came off the car (original I think) was folded over, and is better made.

With contact adhesives like Evostick do you find that the trim starts to stick well before the trim is in the correct place? The MiniSpares trim is moulded straight and the dash is curved a little, so there is some shuffling and pushing required to get a good fit. Do you get round this by only gluing the trim under the dash rail, and relying on the chrome strip and clips to hold the top?
