Hi ben loving your work, Im just wondering if you charge by the hour or do you just quote a job at a agreed set rate. Maybe i should really pm you this but please feel free to pm me with the answer if thats what you prefer. Thanks.

No problem.
I charge an hourly rate but this is only really used to calculate the quote.
Once the quote has been completed and accepted, I work to that.
Obviously, If I quote a car from photos, I would need to do a full inspection once the car arrives. This is to check to see if there is anything hidden or not immediately obvious that needs attention and then the quote will be adjusted accordingly. Nobody is under any obligation to continue if the cost rises too much and of course, any extra work I recommend does not always necessarily have* to be done (depending on if it is dangerous or directly involved in the repairs previously agreed.
The same goes for cars I have seen in advance because often, once the car is stripped or even partially stripped, more rust and problems can sometimes be found.
I'm very fair and the jobs often take me longer than the hours quoted but the quoted hours do not change unless it's lots more work than agreed. This way, you will still end up paying the same agreed cost.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply ben, I'm just weighing up costs at the moment and whether id benefit from getting the work done by some one like your self, ive seen your work and its spot on. It wouldn't be for a year or 2 anyway as I would need to save. I could do it my self but not sure I can on such an important mini to me which has more sentimental value than anything as ive owned my blue mini since 2006.

Thanks ben I appreciate that, I think I'm just going to start collecting panels needed and see how far I get. I been thinking about getting rid but haven't got the heart to do it. I still struggle with welding and grinding plugs welds flat without grinding into surrounding panels etc.

This lovely Mini 40 turned up this morning for some fairly minor work
I'm going to be doing both door skins and door frame repairs, some minor repairs to the bonnet, right front wing and boot lid.
I made a start by stripping it down
And then started one of the doors
Skin off
I found a hitch-hiker inside the frame
Frame cleaned and worst of the damage removed
I made up a repair section
And then used this to mark out the rest of the frame I needed to remove
Then started to weld it in
Once fully welded, I ground it down
Bare metaled and zinc primed the edges of the frame
And then prepped the skin before dropping the frame into place
That just needs folding and welding now and that's done.
More to come next week!
Cheers

I popped in for a couple of hours this morning to finish the door skins off.
Here is yesterdays folded and ready to try
And then popped on the car
And then on with the other door
Off with the skin
One smaller repair required to the frame
Frame done
Then \I dropped the frame into the new skin after prepping it
And then folded and done
Then onto the car
Needs some work here...
And here
But overall, I am pretty happy.
Next I need to fettle and then weld the skins to the frames
Then prep, paint reassemble and done!
