Hi Ben , what have you got planned for Pauls Lovely Cooper S?
When are the building works expected to be completed?
I do need to get my Mini back over to you for the new front hub to be fitted and get it MOT'd.
Regards
John

There is a big list of work required but it's all small bits for the most part.
Some mechanical work and the main paint work is to repaint the roof the correct colour and some surface rust to tend to underneath.
I'll document it all on here as I go.
The building work should be mostly complete by the end of this week and I hope to start moving stuff in in a few weeks.
We can talk about getting yours back for the hub and the mot.
Cheers

I dropped that off at 8:30 this morning
There's quite a list to do. New steering rack as the nearside was reported to have wear at the last MOT and the knocking is driving me nuts (Ben, can you keep the rack for me please)? Repaint the wheels and having Aquajets fitted. Roof correctly painted (think currently it's a Renault white - that's what it said on the tin that came with the car). Tidy up the grill fitting, sort out the rust at the on the fitches, align the doors. I then come up with a load of little jobs and I thought I'd get it MOT'd too!

You painted the entire car except for the bonnet, boot and right quarter......why not just match it all up?
Posted 24 November 2021 - 01:16 PM
Well it doesn't really work like that.
The blend panels are prepped strictly for the purpose of blending the colour so it matches what is there rather than hoping that it matches edge to edge.
This car has been painted many many times previously so i wouldn't want to get involved in a respray to put my name to without at least a weeks worth of prep.
Cheers
Ben
If I was to repaint this car, I would need to allow far more time to carry out the prep more throughly for refinish.

I've been rebuilding the red Cooper up starting with the engine bay parts
And then a flat and polish
New stripes and decals
And it went in for it's MOT which it failed on a couple of minor things, steering rack gaiters and a brake pipe.
I'll get those sorted out and then it's done.
Cheers

Yep.
I'll have updates on yours very soon.
The mechanical work is complete now, just the paintwork to go. I have the snowberry white paint now as well as more of the blue and some silver for the wheels.

What a great reg number on the red cooper.

I put the Red Cooper in for an MOT which it failed on a couple of small things.
I replaced both front wheel bearings
The steering rack gaiters
The obligatory 2 wheel alignment
And then cleaned ready for the off next Tuesday

Work has been progressing nicely on the 68 S.
It's had a new steering rack and a few other bits underneath and now onto the floors and sills which needed tidying up.
The other side was a bit worse however
So I cut out the bottom of the flitch and a section of the floor pan and replaced
Next up was the doors which had dropped slightly and were rubbing the quarter panels.
After adjusting, I cleaned up where they were rubbing
Plenty of clearance now.
Next, the grille.
The mounting holes were right on the edge and a couple had broken through
They were welded up and then the slam panel was addressed.
I removed the old riv nuts, welded up the holes and then installed new riv nuts
Thays the body repairs sorted now and ready for paint.
I shall paint both quarter panels, the front panel, both floors and sills, 1 flitch and the roof.
Another job on the list was the wheels
Getting a bit tatty now. They have either been powdercoated or plastidipped.
Either way, the coating wouldn't sand back so I decided to sandblast the wheels
A nice coat of acid etch
And after a flat, a coat of black base was applied to give a nice base for the silver
Followed by the silver base and 2 coats of clear
I like to do the faces separately so I'll repeat the process once the backs have hardened.
So next job is the paintwork then reassemble along woth a few other small bits and it's ready for the off.
Cheers

Happy new year to everyone.
Back to work and back to the Cooper s.
With the underside repairs complete, I prepped for tinted stonechip and applied it.
Then back into the workshop to prep for the topside paintwork.
Now I have clearance on the shut lines, I need to make good the edges whilst retaining enough clearance.
And then I prepped both quarter panels ready for paint.
I'll prep the front panel next and then go on with the blue.
That will just leave the roof to repaint and it can be puy back together.
Cheers
Ben
