Its also worth considering the charging cable between the alternator and the starter solenoid. Over time the cabling deteriorates and resistance builds up and less current reaches the battery.

 

I produce new cabling capable of 76A so covers all bases and has noted an improved charge rate on my own 45A alternator with halogen upgrades, amp and four spot lights.

 

I also recommend that after a run with headlights, heater etc on to let the car idle with everything turned off to allow the battery to re-charge.

What size cable do you use. 4 awg?

I don't go by awg sizes. I use two cables rated at 38A giving ample charging capacity.

I'm happy to sell the components, but for another £10 I'll make it for you!

What size cable do you use. 4 awg?


I use 2 x 6.0mm 84/0.30mm Thin Wall Cable @50amps

As above, i use 2 x 4.0mm 56/0.30mm Thin Wall Cable @38A - but either will be an improvement on old thick cored wiring
