Thanks, been on holiday last week so decided to do a few bits today mainly small bits that need doing rather than starting anything major,

Ground down the bulkhead repair, should be ok now with a skim of filler although it won't be seen

3887c8a3c4fbcc0d696fc7d15336e32d.jpg

Did a small repair to upper door frame

Before

After

e5818176cfb3720d39212236b3a0b0eb.jpg

Then fitted new door bottom from machine, had to drill holes in bottom but it fitter rather well

5588779daaa4c374c68e0ac9a0408bea.jpg

Then trial fitted frame to make sure all still ok

eb93bc9a81f80057812e02d4c6d400df.jpg

Gap at top is a little big I think, but will sort that after skin fitted and bolted in position with door seal in place.

Also found a small hole on rear pillar so welded a patch in that

3f15aa2606690648810a6ef074388367.jpg

Also welded a patch in roof where aerial was

11777d94c69488a8eeaeae93efb5a301.jpg

My grinding flush isn't perfect no matter how I tackle it but nothing a light skim of filler won't cover

I Also spent an hour stripping paint off passenger side, well how much of it is left, have been using hot air paint stripper and works fine and not a messy as stripper,

Need to find a way to derust inside channel at top of door, it's only surface rust but quite difficult to get access.

Thanks, I think by keeping the doors on the car as long as possible and using them whilst lining up the other panels helped a lot. The full a panels also made it easier

Also trial fitted the doorskin today as weather prevented me doing other things I had planned, it's a magnum panel so needed a few alterations to fit the frame, basically had to flatten the edges near top and fold to get a nice gap. Also hole for handle needed altering slightly and hinge holes need moving a little. Just need to derust and paint the frame now before fitting properly. Probably won't get much done next week as hopefully going to himley show.

Doesn't look much different on this picture but I have completed repairs to door frame, finished cleaning up the frame and painted inside with zinc primer, I then fitted the skin as best as I could. I am aiming for a 5mm gap all around so still need to build up and grind the edges in a few places but pretty pleased with it at moment. I also had to weld up and re drill upper hinge holes in skin and have yet to do a few alterations to get handle fitting correctly, both of which I had to do on my mk1. It is a magnum skin though but for the few things that need doing are well worth the saving, will leave as is for now and start work on the other side next time I get chance.

Managed to do a little more today,

Spot and plug welded inner a panel in position

375495be84c580705085c8bb8bde5a07.jpg

Spotwelded outer a panel to inner wing

3139de0bff125a1115086aa0b59d0864.jpg

Then spent a little time removing the internal bracing, a big step really

126abceb68cffbd7326b6d65ea0747ad.jpg

Then I removed skin from drivers door, frame not too bad but will replace bottom as have panel already,

c4d3bddb9ad545a94e102ed413c4c8c5.jpg

Then trial fitted frame in shell, fit looks ok so will repair frame and get skin fitted next

Once this door is completed will tackle roof corner repairs and fit new drip rails before tackling the front end

Thanks,

Did you get yours started, if not after this weekend I should have a bit of spare time, have been a little tied up with cars at moment. Have been working on my daily for mot so full service etc, then I have been working on another car ready for a car show at ragley hall on Sunday. I also have mk1 mini mot next month but not too worried about that one as only did 300 miles since last mot. Then have had to fit in some time on this restoration. Good job I have an understanding wife, the kitchen decorating has been postponed again.

Not much done today, but I did decide best way to complete the door frame repairs, I am going to fabricate the section in situ then when I remove window surround I can get full access to back to get some paint in there.

Only managed to fit one piece in position but think it's probably easiest way to tackle this area.

Managed to get a little more done,

Cut out rot on roof corner

1ed1c44ea2c239e2807793abdf6665a7.jpg

Than fabricated a piece to put in and welded in position, surprised it had no distortion, will only need a light skim of filler later

3b492fab8de6064029a2750391d572ec.jpg

I then began fabricating a piece for upper door frame but had to get some other jobs done so not finished yet,

Hard bit I think will be modifying the new windscreen surround to mk2 spec with the drain cutout
