Hi I have tyred fitting the front windscreen this afternoon and it won't fit it's like the glass is to big for the rubber my thoughts are that I got the back rubber from Phoenix usually at mini shows. and it went in lovely no trouble but I have brought the front one from mini spares has anyone had any trouble fitting mini spares window rubbers? So annoyed I really wanted it fitted tonight haha Thanks Tom

are you putting the glass in the right groove big groove glass small groove body you may have to twist the rubber inside out , will the rubber fit right around the glass if not its the wrong one

Tom, have you any old window rubber about?
It may be worth cutting a few small sections from it to enable you to position the screen in the aperture to then enable you to check the gap is correct between the glass and the aperture, I believe it should be around 1/4" to 3/8" gap to allow the window seal to fit nicely.

Worth a check, just to make sure what the problem is being caused by?

Hi yes big groove for the glass section. I can get it in around the bottom and up the left side but I can't get top right in as the glass won't pull down to allow it to fit. I might order one from pheonix as the back one went it lovely no trouble. I did ask mini spares for a mk1 windscreen rubber but it looks thicker then the back one..

hi mate I might test the glass in to see where it's tight I do think I have the thicker type from mini spares tho.

Also as I was pushing the rubber in place I got it all the way round and I still had some left and couldn't fit it all in so I went around again and all the rubber sat in then.

When fitting the rubber to the aperture, I find it's important to make sure you don't stretch the rubber as you fit it, and the same goes for the rubber type insert . I think if the rubber is to long it would buckle out in the corners (on the inside when fitted to the aperture , did you notice it do that when you tried to fit it?

Have you got a new front screen or original as mk1 glass front and rear is thinner in thickness ? Just a random thought really ha

Its normal the rubber appears bigger than the hole, you need to ensure its pushed right in the corners.

Always fitted minispares ones with no issues whatsoever.

If youve had scuttle work, has it been welded wrong?

I believe what is in order is to make some measurements of the repaired opening and compare those with measurements for a Mini which has no scuttle repairs.
