Left hand lower spigot goes to purge valve, right hand one is basically connected to the larger upper one via a metal tube and they both go to the timing chain breather.

I'd definitely buy a prototype system as am contemplating fuel injection for my mini in the near future and love things that are a bit different! :) also I think I'll buy an arduino starter kit to get my head round it. Wouldn't mind a simple ecu to run some bits on my mini like lighting/fans etc :)

I've got an Arduino in the TR7 for controlling an electric water pump and electric fan - been working for about 2 years with no problems. They're great devices and probably the easiest way into microcontroller programming.

yes,  yes,  yes!  I love this so much!  I've always been a bit of a comptuer geek and this idea makes me so happy Haha!  I have a late Japanese spi model mini that has the late mpi engine block and all the ancillaries  such as coil pack ignition and stuff,  but with the spi injection...  I hate not being able to have any control over my engines setup,  and I'm also a tight sod Hehe if you could eventually get this system running well and able to work with my coil pack and stuff - maybe with obd support that could work with the torque app...  then I would love to buy this as some sort of kit -  having to experiment with it is all part of the fun!   good stuff,  will be keeping up with this! 

 

edit: if the autotune feature you plan to implement worked well and could be effective above 90bhp - something the stock ecus fail to do,  then this would be a very popular modification that would be in great demand for all!

PCB looks very good - with all the features one will ever need seemingly packed in! Also with the more capable specs there is some room for lots of great software touches?   ;D  :lol:

Thanks mate! Just acquired an MoT failed Golf Mk3 GTI 8V with a good engine. It has fuel injection already but an old style dizzy. Its the perfect vehicle to develop the ECU, especially the ignition side. If it all works OK, I'll publish the design for anyone that wants to experiment  O_O

Thanks mate! Just acquired an MoT failed Golf Mk3 GTI 8V with a good engine. It has fuel injection already but an old style dizzy. Its the perfect vehicle to develop the ECU, especially the ignition side. If it all works OK, I'll publish the design for anyone that wants to experiment  O_O

awesome! do you think you will look at selling these as a unit or something when you get it good enough?

I'm sure its possible providing the algorithm takes account of varying engine states - e.g. when accelerating, the mixture is deliberately rich and decelerating its deliberately lean as well as at idle and while coasting. You'd probably only apply real-time adjustment while cruising. The most difficult part would be understanding how the engine responds to changes in fuel metering. You can easily induce wild oscillations if the algorithm is too "aggressive" or be ineffective if too "mild".

 

My first preference for "auto-tune" is based on statistical measurement of the air/fuel ratio (limited to lean/rich with a narrowband sensor) in each RPM/Load cell. Providing you take enough samples, you can confidently determine if a cell is rich or lean then make a small discrete adjustment for that cell only. You exclude cells that cover idle and coasting, etc.

If it works OK, I'll probably publish the hardware design and offer a kit of parts, including PCB's, firmware, software, documentation, etc. Or perhaps partially built units. Dunno yet - still lots to do.
