Reading your subframe mods with great interest.  The bump stop angle is the only thing limiting me from going lower at the front and this seems to sort that out perfectly.

So, here's my cut down Hi-lo.

I wanted to make sure I didn't affect the strength of the unit so this is currently my "safe" option. I had a friend lathe 5mm off the main body and 12mm of the main adjusting bolt, completely taking the hex head off and a bit more.

I consider this the safe option because:

  • The top of the main body is heavily chamfered inwards so although I've taken 5mm off it I've actually only lost around 2mm of threaded contact area between the main body and the adjuster bolt.
  • I'm still using the lock nut which I think is essential.
  • The shoulder of the knuckle joint still has it's full contact area touching the adjuster bolt even with the hex head removed.

The new Hi-lo sits 12mm shorter than the original which should give me enough room to get everything in. If not I'll have to look at other options.

Oh, and I can still adjust the height using a length of hex bar passed through a pair of drilled tower bolts.

nice mods to the hi-los defo gonna give a lot more tweaking options given the ratios between trimming them down to ride height if that makes sense

Got a few more small jobs sorted today.

Both subframes are now off the pick-up and have been dropped off for sand blasting.

I've mounted the coil pack where I want it on the bulkhead so that I can have a drive over to Magnacor and have them measure up and make a custom set of HT leads the right length.

And lastly I've welded a bracket in the boot for the washer bottle as there'll be no room for it under the bonnet once the supercharged engine's in there.

Blasting is a horrible job but it goes the job done.

What are the two brackets in the middle?
