Great to see some Dunlop gauges being used. I'd expect that setup to have made the worlds of difference. Be interested to know how the modified front suspension compared to standard. Did you do it to compensate for the lowered ride height?

It was originally done for my pick-up which I did run really low. I wanted to re-use the subframe on the Clubman, even though it isn't lowered, as I'd spent a lot of time reinforcing it and I could also use the Metro hubs with sealed ball joints.

MOT'd for another 12 months.

Passed with no advisories. CO's were at 2.173 and HC's at 104 thanks to the excellent mapping by EFI-Parts!

Finished up something I've been meaning to get sorted for a while - some tunes for the Clubman.

It didn't come with any stereo provisions in 1980 so I've mounted a Focal FP 2.75 amp in the boot. Whilst it was EFI-parts I had Chris incorporate the amp trigger wire into the loom going to the fuel pump to keep things neat.

Connected to the amp and hidden out of sight behind it is a JL Audio MBT-RX bluetooth receiver so I can play songs straight from my phone without the need for a head unit.

Next up was an MDF parcel shelf to house the speakers. My old man turned the rings on his lathe to the specs I'd drawn up and a pair of Focal Auditor R-130S2's were fitted with the cross overs hidden in a recess routered out underneath the shelf.  The whole lot was then covered in acoustic carpet and fitted in the car.

That's a nice idea, and I'm guessing it means that the parcel shelf doesn't need to be cut to fit the speakers. It's a very nice design solution :)

I think this is something more people with old minis, that don't have speaker holes should do, when they want to fit speakers in their cars.

Vert neat Jon, I like it.  Are the speakers vented or enclosed?

I don't think it's either really as they're not in a box.

Just a small update.

The throttle cable supplied with the Specialist Components kit is a (rubbish) generic one which uses a solderless nipple that keeps slipping resulting in slack at the accelerator pedal.

I wanted to use a proper Mini cable with solid fixtures at both ends so I remade the cable mount for the throttle body to accept an MPI cable.

The time finally came to change the heavy RTS clutch for something more practical for daily driving.

I went for MED's lightweight verto set-up as I needed a fully balanced clutch and flywheel combination so I could swap the lot out in a single day and get it back on the road.

It comes supplied with an uprated turbo pressure plate but with the remote servo I have on the clutch line it's no heavier than a standard 1275 one.

The old RTS clutch, friction plate and standard flywheel combination weighed 11.6kg compared to the complete MED unit at 9.2kg. The engine revs much more freely and I haven't noticed any downsides in terms of drivability or how it idles.

Whilst I was pulling the engine bay apart I took the opportunity to fit a bulkhead mounted brake servo I'd build up using new and reconditioned parts. I was a little apprehensive about whether there'd be enough vacuum to run two servos but it seems fine.

Haha, 'because I bought a Metro, threw a sheet over the Clubman, put it in my dad's garage and haven't driven it since!

It's time will come again...
