that's a pretty low power rating if a flywheel figure and still a 1380?

Im presuming its got a low CR from when the supercharger was fitted

Yeah, the SW5 camshaft and a low compression ratio of around 8.7:1 mean 82bhp's about right.

Here's some close ups of the idle air control valve:

The IACV is a 2 pin Bosch unit found on lots of vehicles, most commonly BMW's.

To physically mount the valve I just made a bracket out of 2mm steel thats sandwiched between the manifold and the throttle body. To plumb it in I had to drill and tap a 3/8bsp hole into a circular lug that's already there but not used for anything on the underside of the SC throttle body. Into that I screwed a 15mm 90 degree hosetail fitting and then used a silicone reducing bend to join the two together.

How are you finding the sw5? I've got that and the SC injection kit ready to fit to my MPi  (1312), worried it might be too tame, as my other Mini has a 100+bhp 1380 with 276!

Great build, shame about the 'charger, but suppose theres always time in the future for development! Hoping to get mine mapped at EFI too!

Those close up pics just show how much of a work of art it is.

What's the heater valve off?

It looks like it used to be a DSN cranked stub, but it's been cyborged :-)

I went with the SW5 as the engine was originally going to be supercharged. Had I known from the start it was going to be N/A I might have researched it differently and come up with something else. I don't have a lot of experience with different types of cams but I can't say I'm disappointed. It seems to pull good all over the rev range.

If you like the 276 why did you change? You're welcome to come for a drive when you're in Manchester.

If you mean the actual heater valve then that's a bypass valve from T7 Design that allows heated water to flow through the manifold regardless of whether the circuit to the cabin heater is open or closed.

If you mean the heater take-off on the cylinder head then Mini Manannán's correct, it's a RetroSport part that's been drilled and tapped to accept a 1/8NPT coolant temp sensor.

Well, it's taken me a while but I think I'm finally happy with the way everything's laid out in the engine bay.

In the end I reluctantly had to move the clutch servo under the wing and get rid of the fresh air scoop. Although everything did fit in the engine bay it made getting to the clutch slave almost impossible.

With those gone I could fit a different air filter and will be eventually have an oil catch can made to go where the servo used to be.

The car does run but I don't really want to use it until it's been mapped properly. I'm booked in at EFI-Parts for a new ECU, wiring loom and full mapping session in a few weeks.

Fantastic workman ship mate and I think it's brilliant the amount of development and evolution that's people are still putting in to there minis . shame the supercharger hasn't worked out yet but reading this and think it will only be a matter of time .
The bhp will be quoted at the flywheel my clio cup track car was mapped by efi parts and there rollers are very honest unlike most in the mini scene cough and they are really good I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them

Had a trip up to Minisport today to get all my suspension geometry sorted properly after I'd got things fairly reasonable with the limited equipment I have.

I knew something was off as it felt terrible to drive and suspected it to be the castor as I have no way of setting that. Turns out I was right. OS castor was 2° while the NS was -1.5°  O_O

minisport_geometry.jpg

After an hour of fettling we ended up with front settings of -1.5° camber, 4° castor and 15 minutes toe out.  At the rear I've got standard brackets which I'd already filed the hole upwards on to achieve -0.5° camber.

Needless to say the return journey was much better, feeling more planted and secure on the road. Money well spent.

I think having car set up well is is one of best things i did to my mini. big improvement.

Great to see some Dunlop gauges being used. I'd expect that setup to have made the worlds of difference. Be interested to know how the modified front suspension compared to standard. Did you do it to compensate for the lowered ride height?

Not sure I'd be happy with it sat under a ramp though.
