ATV Today: 17.01.1966: Modified Mini
Gwyn Richards interview with Ralph Broad, the designer of the new Broadspeed GT Coupe, a modified Mini Cooper designed as a road car to run at up to 125mph.
Description     We see the competition version of the Broadspeed GT Coupe being tested at high speed at Oulton Park in Cheshire. Gwyn Richards interviews Ralph Broad about the aims of the car which will sell for £1495 and it is hoped will appeal to the American market.
Broadspeed Engineering were based at Sparkbrook in Birmingham.

We see the two millionth Mini at the end of the production line surrounded by workers as Alec Issigonis looks on. Jeffrey Watson then interviews Issigonis away from the factory about Japanese competition to the Mini, his initial thinking about the design and his future plans for small cars.

Another great find. Well done.
Started my Austin Apprenticeship at Longbridge in 1968.
I was there in CAB1 when the two millionth Mini came off the line. Not in the film though!

Greg Barnes report on a new car-park in Leicester that is only for use by drivers of small cars.
We see Greg Barnes driving up to the entrance to the car-park in a Ford Cortina but being turned away. He interviews Councillor Bill Scotton of Leicester City Council about the car-park which has an eleven foot limit on its spaces and is designed for the driver of Mini and other small cars. We see a couple of shots of the car-park full of Mini cars.

Description     We see two Ford Escort cars being tested on the circuit at Hednesford. John Withington talks to driver Trevor Shaw who was having trouble getting his Mini to start in the damp conditions. Withington also talks to team captain Tom Laffey about what makes a good Hot Rod racer.

That Broadspeed Mini coupe sounds awesome - I wonder how many were actually produced and if any still survive these days??
