You know when you get one of these cars you have for years, and all you do is put oil, water, and petrol in it, well my mini sidewalk is nothing like that. Finally managed to get it through the MOT and now the rev counter is reading wrong as its too high is there anyway of re calibrating it, or do I try and source a new one.

Not a Classic Car you won't ... you can't even do that with a new one ... plenty have problems in the warranty period ...

Something like a Mini needs to be nurtured and loved ... :proud:

Is your tach a factory Smiths item or an aftermarket piece?  When did it last read correctly and what (no matter how insignificant it seems) has been done to the car since the tach last worked properly?

The tach is a factory fitted item, the only thing done to the car since it was working was the vacuum pipes and fuel trap where changed to pass the MOT emissions. Now the factory fitted radio has packed up, there is no display but there is a noise from the speaker when you turn it on and off.

This is the only mini I have ever owned that the first year I had it, it failed the MOT on rot in two places on the tunnel near the seat belt anchorage, how can it rot there, as it's not near the wheels, gets no spray and is heated and dryed out by the exhaust, it's cursed (rant over)

With a factory fitted radio... your car is too new for me to be of assistance.  Sorry, I cannot offer any suggestions.

How far out does it read?

Some gauges do fail with age, other later ones simply work differently.

We need a bit more info, photos could also help.

As a comparison doing 50 in the 97 cooper the tach reads 2500, doing 50 in the sidewalk the tach reads 4200, if this helps.
