Ha, we went to a mk1 renault 5 in the 80s,as the youngest I sat in the boot but at least the other three could sit three in a row instead of on each others laps!

My three year old loves riding in the front of our mini. I had mothercare spend hours checking and they concluded that none were safe in the back of our MPi because of buckle crunch issues (the buckles are on the end of a bit of belt, so end up resting on the side of the seat). The only one that passed their test in the front was the Britax Eclipse, which also fits my Avensis.
Could never get any small baby seats to fit though. The one from our mothercare buggy fits, but the belt is too short front and rear.

Renault 5 for me too before it blew up and we were stranded in the countryside one weekend!

Good old 80s travelling.  Never for long distances, but I remember our squeezing two families into a Renault 18 estate on holiday.  2 in the front, 2 adults and 2 kids in the back and 2 kids and a dog in the boot.  The boot was the best option as you could stretch out!

I do too, surely you could retrofit a bar under the seat cushions picked up from the scrappy from a modern car? I'm considering it as im due to be an uncle at the end of the year and i've already lost the battle with regards to what football team she will support but i'm damn sure going to make her mini mad.
