I want to convert my Cooper spi to SU carb but am strugling to find much info on the subject. I came accross an American site Minimania who describe it as being straightforward and they sell a kit of the bits needed. Basicly an SU HIF44 carb , an A+ distributor , a fuel regulator to allow the use of the existing pump and a relay replaces tha ECU.
Has anyone out there done one, is it easy etc.
Any help or info greatly appreciated.

First question everybody will ask is, Have you done a search on this site on the subject? Im sure you'll find several topics discussing it.

The second question and the most important one, Why do you want to convert to carbs?

Well ok, what realistic price do you want for it? :)

Not sure what they cost new. I'm probably better selling the whole injection system, loom and ECU togethere I spose. I need to offset some of the cost of buying the engine as the person who was supposed to have bought it pulled out :)

Has anyone any experience of the Storm upgrade?

The next question is do you intend to run this car on the road after you have converted it? Do you intend to get an MOT?

Have a look at this.

Be warned that the SPi, is just as good as the carb engine, and vice versa.

Also, a SPi mini converted to carb won't pass the emmisions test come MOT time unless you can prove the age of the carb engine you put in it (talk to your MOT station on what they require as proof).

So you know that the only way to pass an emissions test in this case would be to swap the entire engine for one from before cats were fitted, and have good documentary evidence of which engine you had fitted and how old it was.

There really isn't all that much wrong with the SPi system.

Quick question for you guys. I want to put an SPI engine in my carb mini. For speed I'm going to do it carb for now. Does the SPi std cam have the cam for the mech pump? Otherwise I'll have to go the SU fuel pump route. I've seen in some of the links that this is a yes but has anyone had any problems with this?

Cheers
