Hello everyone. I have a little, but annoying problem when I start my Mini Mayfair from cold; when I pull the choke, oil sprays out from the exhaust for a few seconds. The big problem with this is that I have ruined my new driveway!  :ohno:

The oil level is just between minimum and maximum and I have never experienced any oil leaks from the engine bay.

If anyone has any advice, please let me know as soon as possible.

Thank you and have a good day.

Do you mean it sprays out of the exhaust tail pipe or from the manifold?  What type of mini, year, modifications?

Yeah, I doubt it would be oil - more likely to be soot and water making a dirty wet spray. Any oil getting into a running engine would be burned and would come out as blue clouds of smoke.

Mine does the same.....but you might find it is not oil.  When I was much much younger, my first mini used to blow black sooty liquid all over my bosses car on start up....also used to set his car alarm off.....was such a laugh!!!!

As sledgehammer above says, it might be just soot and water.  Check for blue smoke from exhaust, also check the plugs - if plugs are oily then it might point the direction of worn rings or valve guide/seal.

All Minis do that. It's the water from the exhaust washing the carbon deposits from the inside of the exhaust pipe.

Take it out for an Italian tune up!
Give it a nice fast open road run to fully heat up the exhaust and clear out the carbon build up.

Don't worry, you'll get some oil coming out, just it won't be out the exhaust rather it will be out the engine and on to your drive
