On my mk1 I noticed my exhaust tunnel gets hot as its obviously running but instead of trying to fit some kind of heat shield to the body which would more than likely rattle would it be best to buy exhaust wrap to lock in the heat a bit ? Has anyone else done this and what results have you had ?

I was only thinking of wrapping the exhaust section that runs through the tunnel not worried about manifold. Im not after any better performance just to turn the heat down a little so to speak. Its just you standard exhust fitted to my mk1 850

Hey Rhys, after reading these two posts, I'd just like to say that, yes, I would expect a small temp rise in the floor tunnel over the exhaust, but maybe only enough so to the hand, you could feel that it's a little warmer than the surrounding floor, but that's about all.

So, if you are experiencing a rise in floor temps to the point where you feel it necessary to heat shield or wrap it, then I'm just wondering if there's something in the engine dept that not as it should be, for example, retarded ignition timing, jammed or incorrect dissy, rich or lean fuel mixture or ???

Or is it that you are just flogging her all the way (the mini I mean)?  Sorry mate, don't want to throw a herring out there, but something just doesn't seem right to me here.
