hi can any 1 help me I have a 94 spi mini it as recently developed a tick over problem it revs itself on tick over and the 2 little breather pipes on front on manifold the right hand pipe I can hear air sucking through it and if I squeeze the pipe it stops and tick over goes normal I have checked for air leaks and split pipes but all others are ok if I squeeze any other pipe it doesn't change it is just that 1 on manifold any help or advise would be greatful thanks

Which pipe? Can you post a pic of it??

If something causes extra air to get in that shouldn't I.e. a crook brake booster, the engine management will try to correct it, possibly by bringing idle up. As mentioned by Cal844, picture or pictures of the hoses would help.

i will upload a pic 2moz it is the two on front bottom of manifold and go to the metal pipe that runs along back of rocker cover its the right hose

I think he's referring to the crankcase breather pipes found on later minis.

As above its air getting in. Either you have an air leak in th hoses or pipe or the valve to the charcoal canister is open or an issue with the charcoal canister (under the wing above the shocker mount).

One or several of these is at fault.

these are the pipes I am on about and the right 1 what my finger is on that is the 1 that I can hear air going through if I squeeze it that stops and revs go normal thanks

Replace the pipe,as already stated any air leak will confuse the ecu which will try to componsate for the extra air getting in by raising the revs hence the hunting up and down.

An old thread, but in case of future interest I had the same problem (slightly high tick over, revs wouldnt drop as they should when I came to a stop) and the issue for me at least was simply a sticking throttle cable.  Brand new one, nice and slippy, cheap fix, sorted.

I know air intake / vaccuum leaks are really common cause, but this is another simple thing to check.
