I bought a Halfords filter (model HOF203), but the thread seems too small for my 2000 Cooper mpi. Does anyone else on here have a Halfords filter on their car? If you do, can you tell me the code please as mine doesn't seem to be correct.

Cheers :-)

Cheers for that. It had 2 reference numbers for the same model in their spec book and it looks like I gambled on the wrong one as the guy in the shop couldn't confirm which was correct either. Bugger!

Theres 2 as the pre mpi filter head has a smaller thread than the MPI filter

In that case their spec book should say 1992-1996 then I would say, rather than 1992-2000. I should have known I guess, so I'm blaming myself ;-)

One of our old club members had a similar problem. He found out that the last MPi minis had 13/16" UNF filter threads fitted to match the rest of the rover engines then in production. Before they had been 3/4" UNF. Not sure if that is 100% true but I guess someone on here maybe able to confirm it

Write an email to them! They are good for feedback.

Maybe that's why there were 2 versions for the same car then if it's possible that there's a 3/4" and a 13/16". Oh well; I did tell the guy that their book was confusing and he said he'd have a look at it. It was at the Shoreham branch, so now they've been named and shamed ;-)

To be fair to Halfords, I've had similar problems with my local auto supplier. Their book suggests one type for the MPi and it didn't fit mine either - again, it was just the thread that was wrong. Best thing I've found is to write down the number of your current one before you pick up the stuff. They can usually map between part numbers of different manufacturers. Curiously, I don't think I've had the same problem with Halfords' book on my 2000 model Cooper.

The MPI Mini filter is the same as a Land Rover Freelander (1998-2006, non-diesel.) So if the filter doesn't cross reference with said Freelanders, it probably is the wrong one for a MPI Mini. As far as I know this is true for the 1997 MPI Minis, which I have fitted these type filters to.

Or just buy a genuine filter from minispares rather than a cheap one from halfords :)

Pretty sure you need HOF213.

Funny enough if you buy a filter for a 1990 mini from eurocarparts you get the MPI filter. I have 2 :(

It all sounds a bit hit and miss doesn't it :-)

I would have ordered from Minispares, but I live in France and was only over for a weekend, so Halfords was the obvious place to go. I've got a Unipart one on there at the moment, so I'll try and track one of them down here if France as none of the Halfords equivalents stock filters for anything other than older minis.

I had the same issue on the weekend. Bought the 203 which the thread didn't fit. Next bought the 213 and the filter is to long by 3-4 mm making it impossible to fit. Halfords are useless. Bought one off of euro car parts hoping it will be right.
