Oh and I think tyres probably have a huge impact on speed - more so than bhp.

Yeah i think that too, when your there as a test see if you can hold a true 75mph then acelerating round the carosel and that was the slow time i went round and got chance to look at the speedo... (when i say true my speedo is calibrated digi within 1mph of real speed, unlike nearly every mini speedo)

i fully understand that my car does not have a lot of horse power.. but having lots of power does not make you fast or indeed quick...

Another interesting thing is if you look at the vids of me going down the strip the car i was against has a rolling road saying it has 69bhp at the wheels! so how did i beat it?

I really enjoyed my time round the track and for doing "around a 10min lap" was good enough for me, better than anbody that went in our group.

The caliber of cars i was racing and then overtook round the track is unbeilevable... for example... Civic Type R, Bini cooper s, elise, scoobys and evo's to mention some. I had passengers in with me to verify this.. but not that i have too because i have nothing to prove i am just sharing my experience...

as the saying goes "a average driver in a good/fast car is slower than a fast driver in a slower car"

It makes no difference to me if you are a good driver or not.. and i have not took offence to all the bull poo claims as to be honest if i didnt know me or was there to see it i would say the same

I am hoping to make combe in sept but as i have just walked out of my job of 6 years it depends on funds..

as for being on the high chair.. thats common thread police behavour and is typical of a spotty kid hiding behind there computer..

Like i said all along this thread was near meant be a how fast i/you can go round the ring it was a warning to anybody thinking they can drive to the ring and round on 032's/048's as they simply wont make it

I'm running A032's and I reckon you're right. 5 laps last year didn't really touch my A008's, but the 32's are so much softer. Depending on the weather (which I think will be HOT) I'll just take it slow round the 'Ring. Besides, the missus is coming with me and I don't want to frighten her, and I don't want to kill the car I've spent 3 years getting to this stage! Even if I wanted to I don't think I could take a spare set of tyres, there just isn't room!

I doubt they will last just the road driving in hot weather dude... i got about 800 miles out of mine and the laps round the ring... go on 008's or take a spare set of wheels

Should get a set of camacs..lol. theyre built to last a nuclear winter... altho expect to be in the barrier on the first corner ;D

I always used to buy cheapo tyres, and it wasnt until i purchased my first set of yoko's or anything over £22 a tyre, was amazed of the difference it made.

Excuse me for butting in... with my car, getting to the 'Ring is more of an issue than worrying about how fast I can make it around (I'm hoping for a 45-minute lap!)... but didn't someone say, after talking to RingMini last year, that he never buys expensive tyres, because he just toasts them? I seem to remember something along those lines. He uses cheap tyres because he goes through so many sets, he couldn't afford to use anything expensive!

he had yoko 539's on i think the other week... yeah well i can back him up on that, i did a set in 5 laps.. he does like 800 odd laps a year... would soon add up to a mega tyre bill

make sure you have legal tread on them for the run there and back... you'll be even more skint if the old Wilhelm catch you with illegal tyres! ;D

Well there arent actually slicks but very worn 048r's so they do look road legal from the side. takig 'em anyway just in case of a puncture.

if it helps for all that went last year they will remember me doing 9.67sec in my 998cc...
i think everyone was there to see it. most of the time i was pulling between 10 min to 10.30 min depending on traffic.

i think even mighty mini was one of the ones timeing my lap times...

so yes it can be done....
