Plus I was on A539's! I forgot, when I posted earlier, that I had changed em over before the run.
Where are you supposed to time from then? I was under the strong impression that it was from the last of the cones after the start barrier to the big metal structure 3/4 of the way down the fianl straight. Is that where you were timing from?
You just don't have the torque with your car to get up the hills and do a sub 10 lap. I'm struggling to believe you could do it sub 11 unless you know the track pretty well.

erm I didn't get a time, because the first one we attempted to time it I ended up kissing the armco.

There is a set not long after the opening barrier and then coming back down the stright there is a set there.. timed really to the braking point to come back off for the lap.
i didnt do the timing the others were doing it.. all i know is for every bend that was under my cars flat out speed i gained on everything! the ring taxi and the porches through the twistes...
but it was like two sections really... i was racing everything arounf the first part.. then there was the hill were i was was left for dead.. then through the top what ever had last come past me i would catch up and pass before the start finish straight..

Thats when he had the D series I believe. ~120bhp I think, and about 100-110 lbl/ft of torque. And a killer knowledge of the Ring. And then you say you did a lap in just 10 seconds more. Which made me wonder whether it was the same circuit, since I believe they've changed it before.

mine was timed to the braking which on that vids is around the 9.20 mark.. so from point to point against the ringminis video mine would be around 10.10
still dam good for a 1275!

"IF you want to time yourself you start the clock as you go under the bridge which is 100 yards after you leave the cones. The clock stops again as you go under the gantry which is 300 yards down the main final straight."
making ring mini's lap in that videao about a 9.05.
I think this may vindicate dazzler, at least in theory, that his lap time was achievable. Well done Dazzler.
...apart from that, it would be impossible for people in the paddock to even vaguely tell when to start the clock as the bridge is 100yds after the barrier.
However, you are not supposed to time yourself as a newby, and I'm testiment to that. All the regulars say:
"STAY SAFE AND HAVE FUN!"
and if you want to know how fast you were going, take some covert video's, as you're not strictly supposed to do it, from your pax seat and watch them when you get home.
This avoids pushing it a bit further than you're capable.

All the Ringers (the guys who drive the Ring on a regular basis) recommend against trying to time yourself.
It only creates the wrong psychology for driving the 'Ring. What's your driving going to be like if you're chasing a timed lap and you get behind a slow biker in the corners?? There are other peoples lives at stake here, let alone your own.
Get out and enjoy driving the 'Ring to your own ability. You'll know when you've driven a good lap.
And the other thing. A good 1/3 of the 'Ring is up a bl**dy hill. I've got a 1275 '97 Cooper at about 64bhp and I wasn't prepared to break my engine last year switching continuously b/w 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears and 4-6,000 revs to keep any speed up the hills.
Taking it easy actually works to your advantage here, as the fast cars come screaming past on the hills, and then you're left with a pretty free track for the rest of it.
I'm not trying to be the BH2N party pooper here - but I would like the event not to be ruined by someone having a stupid crash or ruining the reputation of the minis with everyone down there because they've driven irresponsibly. They've got track marshalls drving the 'Ring on a regular basis so they'll spot you if you're doing the wrong thing.
(We also have a parade lap at stake here at the whim of the 'Ring marshals. If we pi** them off, we could face losing this great opportunity).
So can we please end the debate on the timed laps?

This was started as advice on tyres as if i hadnt took another set of tyres to come home on i would have come home with slicks!
Yes you need to be very well behaved to ensure you get your paqrade lap!
i would say unless you are familar with driving on tracks etc i would not race, keep an eye on your mirror and remember to keep right with your indicator as you are very likley to be passed by something doing 100mph + more than you!
