Done a bit more digging and I would say up u need a 12mm Allen key in through the non drive side to remove the bolt.

I can engage the bolt from either side Nick, should I rotate in a Clockwise manner if undoing from the non drive end ?

I read that they should be around 30Nm when fitting, so hopefully It will budge at some point.

This is where you are going to have to do some prodding with a first grade digit and see if you can feel/see with the Mk1 eye ball a shoulder like the earlier image. All threaded are normal and I an guessing it will be from the inside and the force required can are considerable.

That is to say Allen key clamped in vice bolted to a heavy bench and expect a crack when it goes.

But you are going to have a real good look at what there is there as the big red S pic and choose for whoever is the cheapest that day for what ever part.

I borrowed my dads bore scope and after struggling to get a picture of what the camera was seeing without light reflections so bad off the grease, this is what I've come up with.

It looks like a hex inside at pretty much the end of the freehub.

So assuming that's what need to be loosened and not the front splines, which sodding way to a turn to un-do it! >_<

Threads are standard but it looks like you have a bolt to undo from this side first.

Yes I can't really fit the correct diameter of allen key through the non drive end side because of the bearing cone, I presume that can be knocked out with a drift from the drive side.

By cone I guess you actually mean cup?

And I would say a 12mm will fit in there fine and engage with the 6 sided Allen there.

Not had one I have needed to remove Cups from caged bearing yes they just press out.

Erm, ah yeah I probably mean cup, that bit were the bearings sit up against that has a radius face to it.

Now I just need to identify it, it does look a lot like the last link you posted Nick.

They did give you the bolt back so you know what size Allen key you need.

Yes it's still inside the hub cavity, no way that piece can be removed unless the cup is pulled out by a blind puller.

The allen key is 11mm , apparently a rarely used size..

It's most definatly this one Nick, however is the description it says "S092100009 fits Joytech hub for 9-speed cassette. " Yet in the listed items above, that product code isn't there!! Arrrg

Just been on the phone and they don't show up if they're not in stock (makes sense really), anyway, I've ordered one in, unfortunately it's going to be 7 to 10 working days.

Knees are killing from riding a 13£ frame hybrid today, I may need to buy a specialized wheelchair by the end of the week! :teehee:
