Hi,

I'm in real desperate help of how to remove and replace the freehub body on my Specailized Allez road bike.

I use the bike everyday to commute and come Tuesday I need it to get to work.

The freehub needs replacing as it's shaking all over the place and is making a violent clunk when riding.

I've removed the cassette but can't get the god damn freehub off with the allen key!

If it helps it's a Shimano Hyperglide setup

In desperate need here Haha

Edit: If worst comes to worse can I cut if off with the grinder ? and how do you identify them to buy a new one if there's no series numbers on the body ?

youtube?

Already searched the internet and forums Ben, They tell you how to remove it on all of them, and some show it and even go in-depth on stripping the freehub once off the main hub.

But none have been successful for me, I just can't undo the threaded bolt on the inside with the allen key.

They generally fit one of two ways. Allen key form the body side or Allen key from the inside.

But without seeing it I can't offer more.

Looks like you need to make some sort of tool to undo the ring on the inside of the freehub, or just carefully tap it round

That's were the bearings sit and I believe the tool isn't available anymore.

Although from the videos on Youtube and BikeRadar, they don't touch that atall , I think undoing that might just be for the disassembly of the body itself to refurb and re-grease it.

Unfortunately mines beyond repairing due to me cleaning/ de-greasing the cassette every weekend after a hard week commuting for the past year.

My fault for improper maintenance

Ben is the internal bit just in side the body 6 or 12 hex?

Measure it with 2 Allen keys say a 5mm and a 6mm held back to back will give you a size.

Then do the splines go all the way through?or do they stop?

If they stop then it will unscrew from this side. If they don't then it may unscrew from the inside. But you will have to have a look with a torch. Will post up some pictures of the possibilities.

It has more than 6 notches on the inside of the bolt so assume its around 12 side to it yes.

Looking at exploded diagrams it doesn't seem complicated at all, I think the bolt has just fused to the threads really badly.

Done a bit more digging and I would say up u need a 12mm Allen key in through the non drive side to remove the bolt.

It looks very much like that mini13 yes, but I tried a 10mm allen key and it way way undersized, only hex that I could find the right size was a chisel shaft!

And that is a shimano made shimano patten freehub. No one else uses the same fitting.
