I got an Aldon yellow distributor for my 1293 engine, which is better suited and has a vacuum advance which I wanted, so I went to fit it today, and the distributor is the later a+ series, and my block is an a series, and obviously this won't fit.

Old dizzy on top, aldon yellow at the bottom.

Is there anyway I can make this work? I don't know if I can just fit an a+ distributor drive and then it would work?

This is my drive that's fitted.

further findings seem to lead me to believe there's no way I can get this to fit :(

Have a chat with AC Dodd he might be able to modify it to fit.

He has two A+ ones converted to A series fitment on his Facebook so might be able to help with yours. Drop him a pm to see if he can as I don't know the full details on how its done or if it would be possible with yours.

As above, the casing needs modifying and the drives swapped.

Yeah, I've done a few, usually not hard to do. You can swap the drive dogs over, but make a note before removing them which way they are orientated with regards to the Rotor button, not a big deal, however if you get it back on the wrong way, it will always look like it's 1800 out.

I say 'usually' not hard, sometimes the pins in the 45D Dissys can be very hard to get started when drifting them out.

The other thing is the shaft on the 45D4 is a whisker longer than the A+ types, but a quick lick on the grinder will sort that, but shaft wise, fitting an A+ in to an A is no issue.

<Edit: Sorry forgot the clamp!

If fitting an A+ Dissy to an A Block, you can weld a bracket on to the dissy adaptor to take the A+ Clamp. I do all A Engines this way as a matter of course as the original clamping system is just woeful

Here's a modified one, similar to that above, ready for an A+ Dissy in to an A Series Engine
