Hi, I'm after some original and interesting ideas for the parcel shelf in my car. I'm not keen on going for a basic colour like black or anything. What ideas does everyone have in terms of what to do? I'm not the most creative, so would appreciate some insight and some kind of direction. I'm not really after something to do with sticker bombing though.

If it helps, my car looks like this :

Hey Jay, for something a little subtle but still with a bit of racer styling to it which would possibly match your current styling I'd use a flat sheet of 2twill carbon fibre cut to size. It's a bit out of the ordinary and should suit your mk3 down to the ground.

Either as above or aluminium plain sheet or checker plate to match your dash boxes.

Probably should have stated that the dash boxes will be painted black.

Do you guys know what is happening with the KZN Mini Club forum? Have they changed hosts?

Nope, it crashed and burned. It's no more. There's an archived version from last year, but it's not much help. Plans are underway for a new version.

I don't think anything beats a shag pile rug!

Are you talking about the rear parcel shelf? Why not make a speaker pod that looks like the old school ones, but wraps around the windscreen and runs the length of the back window? Then fit some (let's say 4) speakers into it :)

I've thought of that as well, even found some nice flat speakers. The only problem is that it's already the small rear window, I don't want to make it smaller. Also, there are some sticky fingers around that can't keep their hands to themselves and might break the window to nick the speakers . . .

Ah, yeah I hadn't thought of that... :( I know a buddy of mine had their car broken into for a leather jacket, so I guess speakers are a bigger (and more valuable) target. On the visibility front, I'm not sure it will have too much of an effect, though I guess one could always mock up a box, sit in the drivers seat and check :P
