I fitted my brand new reinforced crankshaft oil seal but now need to remove the flywheel housing again. Can I reuse that crankshaft oil seal? It has had no use at all, I only pushed it on the other day with a quality diy fitting tool :(

If I cover the teeth well on the gear and slip it off complete with the housing casing instead of damaging it with a screwdriver getting it out will it be ok?

thanks

Should be OK, at least mine is after same procedure 3 years ago. Done 10000 km since.

Hi

As long as there is no damage to it , it should be fine

remember to put a dab of oil on the seal before refitting the housing , they can quickly wear the lip if dry

Yeap, should be fine as the other guys have said, just take appropriate precautions when removing it and of course, re-fitting.

Just to clarify what hammerman has said, only a lick of oil to the lip, not to the mounting diameter.

Any Oil here may make it slip out.

as above , only oil on the seal lip

I have in the past used fairy liquid / tyre soap . to mount oil seals when tight - don't know if it's good practice , but seals can be a bit tight sometimes

Aaaa engines back in now. Will take the risk. It still required some force on the tool to get it in and surely the plastic protector would help stop it falling fully out?
