just a quick question about the halfords ripspeed brand of head units.
i know halford are exploiting the Ripspeed name for their own brand, but are the units any good.

was looking for a reasonably priced unit that would play MP3/CD, USB input, and then noticed that they also do a unit with a SD card slot, that would probably be better than having a USB memory stick hang out the front waiting to be knocked off.

Ripspeed CMR-2000 link

so whats the opinion on Halfords own brand??

I didn't know halfords had started making headunits.

Its a bit ironic that keith ripp (founder of ripspeed) started out making tuning goodies for minis and now the name is ebing used on headunits!

Having never used or seen one i couldn't comment on the quality, personally i'd go with a tried and tested brand.

Here's a few link to mp3 headunits with memory inputs

Hello mate i work at halfords and fit these all day... i wouldn't recomend 1 to be honest!! they are not very well built, but u pay for what u get to be honest.. and at the moment u get a free mp3 player with usb to plug into the unit.. lol

if u want a usb input stereo ur better off going for the kenwoods or even the jvc

I also work at halfords and have a different view! the units are VERY good value for money.

The new flip out screen unit is made my Pioneer (confirmed), and the cmr100/cmr2000 that you speak of are made by the same company that make fusion (judging by the looks of the power loom /back of unit).

You get a lot of features for your money, and sound quality will be on par with the lower spec jvc/kenwoods, and in a mini your hardly going to notice the different between that and a high end unit anyway.

There cheap Chinese stuff you can buy in bulk for very little money and have them branded as whatever you want.

I would stick with the big names and as I’ve said in other posts on here I’d go for an alpine every time even the bottom of the range alpine blows away most units not many features at the bottom of the range unit but sound quality and build quality are excellent and that’s what its about at the end of the day.

lol im a budget guy too, to be honest, i think that theres nothing wrong going with cheaper units if they are made by the same person to start with!!

Ive seen some people in this forum recomending expensive units, and im sure that 99% of them have them on, i wonder why i never see anyone from the cheaper tellin to buy the more expensive lol.

Anyway i found this site:(he didnt want to spam it but hell, if i like this forum its because you save time searching!!)

www.radioactive-audio.com same unit for £99, do TMFers get 10% discount? lol it would be nice!
