For a 998 plenty of people running the Gt1544, but also good for a low boost road going engine, which is nice and responsive coming on boost earlier.
For people wanting a little more boost and not so worried about lag, the GT2056 or Td04 are a popular choice, easily capable of running 30psi. Obviously these won't fit down the back of the block without a bulkhead box, unless you go down the sidemount route over the clutch housing.
T2 is another option as they are cheap, but the GT17 has basically replaced these due to generally being an all round better turbo, and they seem to be readily available now at a reasonable price.
There are plenty of other turbos people have used, KKK, IHI etc most of these ive made exhausts for have been for the 998 engines.
It all depends on what you want out of the engine power wise and intended use?
EDIT: just seen your fitting this into a metro, you may have more options size wise with regards to fitting one down the back of the block.

When does it start to come on boost? And when is it on full boost?

starts to come on boost around 3.5k I'd say, makes 20psi within 1000 rpm.
just found the graph from it's last trip to the rollers before I stripped the car down

Here's a question that I've never known the answer to; is there any difference between turbos used on Diesels and Petrols?

Hi all. Sorry in advance but i've got a few questions about these turbo conversions.
What engines are people bolting turbos to?
What is a roundabout cost to do the conversion? I am yet to purchase a mini and have been looking at engine conversions. Would a turbo be a much quicker/cheaper way of getting some good power?
Thanks in advance.

Mostly the engine people turbo is the a series - different sizes and variations of it though. The more modest boosted car may run a standard engine - anything above about 5psi of boost will be modified with dished pistons and compression ratio etc... But the a series is a robust little engine and can stand 15-20 psi of boost and kick out upwards of 200bhp when they are fully tuned and boosted in extreme cases such as 1380cc enginesHi all. The cost can variey depending on the turbo you go with, the type of mini, size and condition of your engine and if you do it yourself or not - the cost begins with the price of a turbo (a few hundred or so) and then the sky's the limit depending on what materials you use to pipe it all up, whether you go with an intercooler or not etc... Then you have to take into account into your manifolds, waist gate and all the stuff you need to control it all

Turbo
Exhaust manifold
Downpipe
Plenum
Oil feed pipe for turbo (and possibly coolant pipes, if water cooled)
Intercooler
Intercooler pipes
Oil drain for turbo
Turbo dizzy or mappable ignition
Fuel pressure regulator
Fuel lines
Fuel pump
Fuel return putting on fuel tank or use spi or mpi tank
Carb can be converted for turbo use
A lambda sensor and gauge is handy but not necessary
Stainless valves in head or turbo head with sodium valves
Decent cast or forged Pistons
Decent clutch (dependant on what power you want)
Boost gauge is handy to have
