do Force Racing big Dish 10 (7x10) clear the 4 pot metro turbo brakes ?=> not huge offset so they are outside

Did anybody race with force big dish 10?

Just wondering why I don't find much info on them and not more people using them.

want to keep the 4 pot Metro Turbo brakes but also use 10inch wheels (7x10) with the dunlop slicks.

Looks like the big dish 10 are the only solution without using spacer or huge offsets, true?

Need 7x10 wheels anyhow and the price difference is not huge between big dish and standard dish in 7x10.

Split the rims when mounting new tyres is actually an advantage as I can do this myself without having a tyre mounting machine. Just need to balance them at the tyre fitter.

Should be ok. I have not seen the force wheels but the 7x10 MB split rims I use have masses of space for the brakes.

might be worth having a look at the MB stuff for some more options:

No 10" wheel will truly fit over an 8.4" setup. our big dish 10 is still a 10" wheel and the standard 8.4 brakes will no go .

Hi Carl,

thank you for the clear answer. Is there a possibility to adapt the metro turbo brake to fit the big dish 10, if yes what do I need to do? What is the inner measurement on a big dish 10?

If I look at a standard 10" wheel from the back and add 28mm of the big dish to it then that cannot be much the 8,4" turbo brake is too big. If machining down the 8,4 disc to 7.9 ( 12mm less diameter) and relocate the mounting points of the caliper by 6 till 8mm  as I was told thats how you adapt the metro turbo brake to fit on a standard 10inch then there should be minimal adaption needed for the big dish 10. Math tells me 5" or 13mm +8mm=21mm and big dish is +28mm, should fit but you say does not fit, where is the mistake?

Thank you.

Hi Helldriver, I am too looking to use 10" wheels with the largest brakes I can. I currently own a new set of metro 4 pots I bought some years ago. I want to run 10"s on my BEC and don't want to compromise the period look but need the additional stopping power. What solution did you come up with?

Any advice you have on using the metro 4 pots with 10"s is appreciated, I want to keep the track as narrow as possible but understand using a larger offset can get around the lack of space.

Thanks

Ben

Hi Ben,

no solution on this yet too.

large offset is not an option (max 7x10 ET 0 aimed) at all for me and as I most likely add a supercharger I definitly need the 4-pot metros too.

in the new mini magazine you can find the KAD 25th anniversary mini with their 7x10 mag wheel with -22mm offset and 6 pot breaks and 8.3 discs which KAD says is the absolute limit on 10, maybe this is the solution for you. as my metros are nearly new and i am very happy with them but need new 10" rims anyhow, I only want to buy new wheels.

So with 10" big dish wheel there must be somehow a solution with e.g. machined down discs to around 8.2 and metro calipers but how modify this exactly, no idea ?????

Any help from the cracks on this will be appreciated very much...

Chris

there seem to be no soft/medium Semi slick oder soft slick in 10" (see other thread) that fit the lightweight R1 Mini (around 500kg) so I am gonna stick with 13" rims with medium-Soft semi Kumho V700 or soft avon slicks and metro brakes.

I am starting to think it would be a bloody lot easier to just use 13"s. I'm tempted to try 7.5" cooper s setup with modified Sierra xr4i rear calipers (for handbrake) on the rears and mini spares 7.5" cooper s 4 pots on the front. If it's not enough breaking power then I can always wack the metro 4 pots and 13"s on.

Not sure if this helps you but it what we have works.  Our racer has standard disc type hubs ( not ally) with KAD 4 pots calipers. Wheels are Exacton (Mini Special) 10" rims modified by Force Racing to 7 x 10 . These appear to have quite  a significant offset , which helps with front end grip. There is more than adequate clearance between the outside edge of the caliper (viewed from the side) and the inner edge of the rim although balance weights MUST be positioned clear of this potential interference area, more into the centre of the rim.

You can build the tyres to the rim by splitting and assembling them around the tyre. In fact, when I first got them I asked a tyre fitter to try and fit the Dunlop slicks normally - he could not do it. You will need inner tubes and quite a bit of patience - from memory there are 32 allen screws holding the rims together and I would advise not using a power driver on them in case of cross threading.

Further, I could measure the critical distance between a reference point on the hub and the KAD caliper outer surface but you will have to wait until next week as I am currently recovering from a TKR and won't be home till Sunday. If this helps let me know.

And another further option is 12". Last season we did a series which allowed 12 X 6" and I purchased  them from MWS ( see other post reply) With the Yoko A048R fitted these were 2 secs a lap slower than Dunlop slicks and almost half the price and we can use them again this season. They are remarkedly good but of course uncompetitive against Dunlop slicks. We were in an all Yoko mounted race series - CSCC Swinging Sixties and we won last time out at Donington.

Finally, I am about to ebay 2 converted Force Racing 7x10's in vg condition ( not sure if they have been used) and several original Exacton 10 x 5 ready for conversion. The rims polish up well and the centres (the Exacton bit) can painted to colour choice. Quite willing to send you pics when I get home, just pm me.The wheel nuts and inner tubes are available from Minispares, I think.
