How about east of England showground near peterborough. They held JAE there this year and last year. the grounds are huge. there are a couple of bars, a canopy for show and shine, plenty of camping space, toilet and shower facilaties. Charge £20 per a car to camp for the weekend. then you can have various mini and vw show stands, trade and food stands etc. Make it open to the public and charge them £5 to get in or something.

But definatly a good idea. I can come up with my Bfs brother who owns a beetle.

having it open to the public will require public insurance whichwill get very costly

bruntingthorpe aerodrome has been mentioned by the vw forum. very central and (fairly) easy to find. plus its about 10 minutes from me! although just a meet at some local (and preferably free) venue sounds good just to see how it would go.

i think for a trial run we are getting to complicated, i love the idea of all these venues but for now we must ONLY think along the lines of a cruise and then upscale next year

Having an organised event of any kind needs proper insurance.

Agreed completely.

Marksmini - if you would like any info on setting things up properly and legally for future events, feel free to PM or e-mail me and I'll try to help.

Don't mean to put the dampers on things but anything that involves a great number of vehicles turning up at the same time to the same place will involve A LOT of planning!!

Not much of a problem from experience!
Most will arrive staggered anyway.

Public liability insurance is an added cost but for a weekend show, it can be got for less than £500 and you may find a Company such as Footman James would be prepared to do decent deal in return for an advert in the program or something!

I've co-run a VW show in the Midlands for the past 6 years.

The biggest expense is advertising.

Big venues such as Santa Pod and Billing charge quite a bit for the use of the grounds. Trsut me, you wouldn't want the head ache of trying to run something on that kind of scale!

We have 2 backers for the event in the form of financial assistance if it was to go ahead.

The major problem is making sure it doesn't clash with any show from both sides of the scene, as as the VW show scene already has a show every weekend from April till September of varying sizes, that issue would have to be addressed early on.

Personally, I'd try and keep it a sinmple formula, a one day show on the Sunday with camping on the Saturday evening at the most.

Plenty of interaction between the 2 types of cars.

I don't know how accepted the new mini is in your scene? Is it similar to how the new Beetle was in ours?
It's generally become far more acceptable to own one now put it that way, but this wasn't walways the case!

looks like it's got a positive response from both sides of the fence, which is good to see!

ooooer, dont mention MINIs (or BINIs as they're known as round here), its divided at the minute, some like them, some dont. there seems to be a good argument about them every month or so here. this forum is primarily used by classic mini owners, although some of them have binis as well. in the mini scene in general, a fair few turn up at shows, which isn't appreciated by everyone, but most people seem to have got over it.

there, i tried to be diplomatic, please dont go and show these nice VW peeps your dark sides by having a good argument :geek:

Sounds fairly similar to how the newbie was when it first hit the scene. They will probably become more accepted as time goes on.

Here's a good venue. Set up already for holding such events, and this will also means costs are made so much easier!

It's a bit out of the way, but it's also an excellent setting, and of the fun would be the crooze there! We could also organise a crooze to Llangollen!

LLangollen's a lovely place. Just don't book it when the Eisteddfod's on! (its a Welsh word, doesn't really translate, but basically its a cultural festival). Its usually about the first week of July or something like that.

Anyhoo... this sounds like its gonna be fun!

Llangollen aint a bad place to go to (it's only like 15-20 minutes from me). If you need any help organising it I am more than willing to do so.

The only comment I have about Llangollen is that there is not much around there really. It's nice, but there are no big citys etc nearby, infact the nearest is Wrexham really. I think it would be a good place for a general get together (like maybe 20-30 minis/dubs for a weekend of camping). Carrog itself is a few miles from the centre of Llangollen (but I'm not sure exactly where the campsite is), so it may be a case of taking some crates of beer and even some cider for the dub owners as there may not be too many pubs nearby!

Marksmini, thanks for suggesting this, it's a great idea and I am well keen!

I don't know how accepted the new mini is in your scene? Is it similar to how the new Beetle was in ours?

LMAO!

Coxy stands with an empty can in one hand, the opened lid in the other, and a whole load of worms EVERYWHERE! :D

so is there anything else to add to this topic?

ideas on where you feel something like this should happen????

sort of things that could be done?

or would you just want a sit down camp drink and have fun weekend away?
