Yesterday while on the riviera run My 85 Ritz started to whine for a second or two after changing gear. If I took off in first I would get going then a couple of seconds later the whine would happen for a second, change up to second and third the same and changing down from third to second. I left it sit for a while and went out in it again to record the noise but it didn't happen again. Could it be the clutch release bearing going?

Cheers

If it was the bearing it would whine when the clutch was not loaded

Clutch bearings whine when they are failing and when they have an end load applied, as in when the clutch pedal is pushed down to disengage the clutch. It will stop when the clutch pedal is up as the bearing will not be turning then.

if the fan belt is loose it will 'screech' when load is applied, such as when the revs are increasing and the alternator and water pump are having creating more drag on the belt. Tighten the belt in this case.

Check fan belt tension first, then check clutch bearing by sitting with the engine running and pushing the clutch down. Does the whine start when the clutch is pushed down? If it does, it is the clutch bearing on the way out.

Thanks Guy's, Doesn't make a sound when the clutch is in so should be fine. Didn't think of the fan belt, it just didn't sound like it would've been, I'll give that a check.
