I had an issue which i posted a while ago, i bought a minispares one which leaked. I replaced with a payen one and was perfect

Had a copper gasket fail within weeks. It had "front" and "top" stamped into it, but in the wrong places so you couldn't get both right... Assumed it was a cheap copy, bought the Cooper carbon version and all's been well since.

If you pull the gasket down tighter than the recommended torque then your compressing the firing ring in the gasket and thats asking for it to fail between cylinders and get burnt through.

My engine builder suggested the copper gasket but said to get the copper on one side gasket.

He also said, copper gaskets are better but the surfaces have to be perfect and doesn't use any kind of sealant. I believe he uses them on all the cooper S engines he builds and he builds quite a few.
