This is great timing, I've been staring at my ash tray for afew weeks wondering what I could put in its place.

Definitely looking forward to seeing some prototypes, it'd either be a clock (running off a separate battery) or some awesome accessory that I didn't know I needed!

+1 but do it with a direct power connection which trickle charges an internal battery so you don't lose the time if you take the battery out. I would pay about £40 for that.

Thats exactly how i was thinking of doing it. So you would have a backup battery in the clock that keeps the time when car battery was disconnected, and then a ignition wire and ground that would illuminate and power the clock when car running, this way the clock keeps it time and doesn't run down the car battery when car not running or car battery disconnected.

With this setup the clock would only illuminate and display time when ignition on, this way the backup battery will last a long time.

I may also do a fully battery powered clock with no wires to the car if people wanted that, but i wouldn't like to say how long the battery would last, i would guess maybe a month or two.

I would be interested to see if this could be converted into an outside temperature gauge.

same here. Inside and outside would be ace.

Already looking at outside, inside should be no problem.

Didn't think there would be this much interest to be honest :) There other ideas i looking into as well like phone holder/chargers etc.

I expect it will be a month or two until i have a full finished product buy i will definitely be going ahead with this.

Thanks for all the positive comments and recommendations guys, much appreciated.

I would be interested, depending on price. I would like it to be orange, to match my philips r570 radio display, battery operated and to slot into the original hole with no modifications required, if possible. :shy:  :shifty:
