some boy on here was making a sick one berfore, had a clock, fuel guage, he was even looking into a temperature guage

cool though, anyone of making a bit less 80s?

There will be lots of versions available if all goes well, not just clocks but lots of plug and play easy fit applications, Gauges, chargers, display screens, you name it and if there is a demand it can be made.

The later interior light also fits (just) as mine is held/wedged in place by two bits of rubber trim. Would be nicer to have a proper bit of trim to fill the gap and make it look neater.

That shouldn't be to hard to do as long as there is enough space for clips etc.

I wouldnt mind one too with integrated battery due to me cutting power from battery every time I leave my Mini parked anywhere (can you say paranoid!!!)

Im going to convert my one into a volt meter (red leds) and amp meter (blue leds) all in one meter with a 200amp shunt in the boot.

200 amps isn't enough unless you've got an aftermarket geared type starter motor.  The stall current of all the motors used on Minis as standard is 360-375 amps.

I think they'd sell well.
Would it be possible to wire it into the car but include a seprate battery to keep it going if the main car battery was disconnected? The radio on my daily does that so I don't need to enter the code.

Also considering doing switch surrounds in coloured plastics and carbon (for standard and savage style switches), all will be laser cut.

But that will not be until after the clock project.

I would be interested to see if this could be converted into an outside temperature gauge.

The shunt is for my ICE install side only.

Not a problem, clock with outside temp gauge already on the list :)

I've read here a few guys would like a back up battery, probably not a bad idea.

In the car I have mine in, I found if I had to crank it for anything longer than about 10 seconds, the volts to the clock would drop enough for it to loose it's memory. I fitted a diode and a 2000 micro cap to the live feed to it to over come that. That worked a treat for this, but if a battery isolator is used often, then a batter would be the way to go.

I just hate having to remember to change the batteries in these things and inevitably, the battery is usually some weird arse thing that I don't have!

Battery backup is 100% going to be on all variations i consider, using a CR1220 battery available everywhere for a few pennies.

If i go ahead with this (looking more likely every minute) i intent for them to be a decent product that will last.

** UPDATE **

Mould should be ready by next week, so can make the first copy of original and then start on remodelling that to accept different clocks and accessories.

Should have some prototypes pics up in the next two weeks for you guys to scrutinise.
