i;ve been having some problems with my starter motor. a few months ago it started sticking. took it off, sprayed some WD40 down it and stuck it back on. no problems. but its started doing it again meaning i have to resort to the hammer method of starting. i do plan on oiling it again tommrow but the starter motor did a weird thing. i was trying to start El Gordo, tapping on the starter motor and it started to go but my car wouldn't start. i mean the starter was making a weird wirly noise then it kinda built up steam and fired up. is it just sticking back or is my starter motor on the way out to the great scrappys in the sky?
cheers folks.

oiled it again (even tho its said to be bad) was a bit stiff even with oil and the + contacts were worn down way more than the - contacts but i don;t know if that means anything. going to look at a new starter motor tommorw. make life simple.
ask people on here some of use a few of these started around we dont need and they will proberly be cheaper than a new one

You need to be very careful when fitting the battery positive cable (and of course the battery will be disconnected). There should be two nuts on the terminal of the starter motor, the 'O' ring on the end of the battery cable goes in between these two nuts. You then need to tighten the outer nut against the inner one, using a spanner on each nut. Do not just tighten the outer nut against everything, it will cause the whole terminal to turn and back the contact within the starter, meaning you'll need another new one.

fitted it anyway. pop out the old connected the new and when off on my merry way. can;t really disconnect battirey tho. think the cables would die and the battires is crappy to say the lest.
