Okay. As you may have noticed I havnt done much with Nancy for a while. Ive been thinking about how to do it differently because everyone does a vtec in the front.

The thinking came around when i was away with work in Inverness. After far too many sherberts myself and two friends were in the hotel bar talking ******* like guys do in a bar. And talk got on to me friends wedding and him being taken to it in a vtec mini.

I said it was a good idea but Nancy would never be ready by 1st June! He told me i was talking rubbish and that i could do it if i just stopped fannying around and got on with it. Then we got on to his 200sx and i comented on how much fun rwd cars are to drive and that i wanted one. "Why dont you put it in the back?" A stunned silence fills the bar (not hard as there are only three of us there at 3.00am). He could see the calculating expession on my face and knew that he had struck a cord with me.

Talk then turned to the idea of a bigger engine possibility as there would be more space in the back! Crazy suggestions came out. Like the 3.0l twin turbo v6 out of the 350zx! Then that turned out to be silly, although the engine would fit, i would have nowhere to sit unless i did a Mr Bean!

So, after some research on the 200sx/pulsar, MR2 turbo, Zetec turbo, vtec turbo and NA vtec. My head began to spin with ideas.

Although they were all do-able, I already have the vtec. And seeing as now I have a deadline to get it done by Ive decided to stick with the NA vtec. I know, I know. Im dissapointed too. But speaking to ed4ran over a cup of jar standing next to Olive he came up with the greatest idea ive heard in a long time!

Im going to try and build a frame that, with very little modification, will accept different engines with ease! I know it wont be as straight forward as engine out engine in, but I goning to try and make it as easy as possible!!

So, when i get back to work, this thread is going to get very busy!

Revised 27/12/2006

Welcome Lady's and Gentlemen to todays brief on Operation: Nancy (Op Nan).

SITUATION

It has been decided that N712 UJB (712) is under performing in this modern world.

Although 712 has been a pretty reliable unit thoughout its current ownership. It's about time that this Mk4 Mini with it's 1275cc SPI power unit be upgraded to a Mini Mk4A. Replacing the power unit with the more reliable and powerful 1.6i VTEC B16A2 Honda engine in the rear of 712 using a home built frame.

MISSION

712's MK4A upgrade with take place in the next 6 months due to a wedding. These Phazes' are described as follows:

Phaze 1

Strip and rebuild the B16A2.

Phaze 2

Ensure 712's structure and body work is sound and painted.

Phaze 3

Assembly

Phaze 4

Testing/Proving and MOT

Once all phaze's have been carried out succesfully, 712 will be taxed and tested ready for the road. Time allowed for completion is from now until June 2007 with no extension avaliable.

Execution

Phaze 1

Because the servicibility of the Honda engine is unknow, a full strip and rebuild has been ordered to ensue that, once fired up, the engine will not chew itself into tiny little pieces.

Phaze 2

Once the 1275 unit is out and front end chopped off. It's a trip to the paintshop for some sand blasting and priming. Then stucture and panels can be assesed replaced/repaired as needed. Then its back to the paint shop for painting.

Phaze 3

Most possibly the longest phaze of the project. This is the time to fit everything together, ensuring it works well.

Phaze 4

After some test drives on privet land, its time to get it to the MOT station. More information will be posted in the future.

Any Questions?

I dont know about ITBs'. Like alot of effort for not alot of reward.

Plus i think Ill be going down the forced induction route when i get board of this. And i dont think Iv seen a turbo/supercharger plumbed in to ITBs'.

Hmmm..... Thats given me an idea!

Dont think there is any need for the ITBs as with it in the back there isnt much/any problems with rear clearance of the original inlet which is why people generally put them on when fitted in the front,
and people dont really use them when turbo'ing because it doesnt really give any benefit and its just more cost and setup for no really gain when turboed, easier to just stick with the single throttle body when blowing it.

I remember reading on 16v that ITB's need more of clearance than the standard manifold. The manifold has an angle in it, whereas ITB's just come straight out.
