Next i fitted lots of bits ,mostly to make room in my garage

Thats upto date ....sorry for the mass of pictures and the poor quality ..got a couple more days off,hoping to get the handbrake fitted and a few other jobs.

Not a massive amount to report but i have been doing little bits here and there ...fitted the handbrake cable and a few other odds n sods.

 

Stripped the heater down,checked the matrix for leaks and replaced all the manky foam around it

Thought about doing the radiator cowl aswell thats why its in the picture but i ran out of paint.

 

Reassembled most of the heater and gave it a sand down,primed it and painted it.

For some reason theres 2 random holes drilled into the front panel of the heater so i decided to cover it with a bit of foam and some vinyl from some old door cards

Did the same on my last mini and it worked out quite well.

 

I then couldn't get the knob off the front of the heater switch panel so i had to paint that bit assembled and mask off the info sticker ...haven't unmasked it yet so fingers crossed i did  good enough job.

And painted the handbrake handle ...it looks really good but your gonna have to take my word for it ...pictures rubbish lol

Today the post man brought me some Grommets and some wrap for my loom so i filled all the holes in the car with blanking grommets ... no pics of that sorry ...and then i started stripping,testing,cleaning,and rewrapping the rear wiring loom,took a while but it was well worth the effort.

I haven't touched the car in months due to getting thoroughly hacked off with the last bit of the door gap but today i decided to do something simple and fit the brake pipes.

Yes i said simple ...........

 

I think the only thing thats simple in this restoration is the numpty building the car.

 

 

 

An old post but I was looking for pictures of a diagonal split brake system and this came up... This looks wrong though? This looks like left and right split and no valve of any sort. Or, do the lines cross over at the rear?

 

Two lines to the rear should be a diagonal split system, rear left to front right and rear right to front left?

Your right that it looks odd, I've never seen one plumbed that way. The 2 outlets from the master cylinder is 1 for the fronts and 1 for the rear, not left and right. You have to be careful though, as the 1st few years that they ran this style of master the front and rear ports where the other way round the the yellow tag ones

This could also be a diagonal split system that crosses over at the rear. I had the diagonal split system on my car but the crossover was in front. So essentially front right and left rear are connected and front left with right rear. 

 

I'm busy changing mine to a front/rear split instead.

I never finished this project ...I changed jobs and started a business that required the garage being turned into a workshop,so the car had to be sold as a rolling shell that was ready for paint.

Business has since gone bust so the garage is a garage again and a mini will soon be in it hopefully.

As for the brake lines....they crossed over at the rear subframe I think.i just coppied the pictures I took when I took the car apart so it may of been done wrong by a previous owner.
