Doesn't that depend on the age of the engine?
The earlier mini's had pre verto clutches and smaller clutch plates (180mm) and the later minis like the rovers for example, had verto clutches and 190mm plates.
I think that's correct but someone here will be able to help more. Just speaking from experience of my own which is a 1993 1275cc A+

Correct rocker, what engine are you using A or A+ and are you using your current gearbox assembly or buying new?

Verto clutches generally use pre engaged type starters,
I know that the ring gears(verto or pre verto) have different tooth counts, also there is 2 clutch plate sizes too

a+, and no im buying a refurbished gearbox apparently ill need a verto, as the pre vertos got faded out in the early 80s, but will i have a inertia or pre engaged starter? is there any way of telling?

On a 94 car you should have a Verto with a pre engaged stater. The inertia starter was phased out around 1984 in favour of the pre engaged unit. There was some cross over in 1984 such as on the Mini 25 where there was a verto clutch with an inertia starter.

Indeed, a friend has one of these engines, very annoying to work on,
A 1990 onwads casr is indeed Pre engaged(solinoid on starter instead of on the inner wing)
