Ive repaired/replaced the floor on my mini and its ready to paint underneath. I have already put 3 coats of red-oxide paint on. I now needs a black paint to finish it off.

Is underseal my best option?

God no. Think about applying a stonechip like Gravitex.

As above then a good wax like Dynax UB on top. All can be had in rattle cans.

I would go for some kind of stonechip such as gravitex as suggested. After that, you can overpaint that body colour and then I would use a clear wax like bilthamber dynax UC. It's great stuff and will help to ensure that your repair lasts as long as possible. It can even be cleaned with a wet soapy cloth or sponge to remove any dust film or dirt that sticks to it (it's not that sticky but will attract a little dirt). This way you know you have good protection, and also you can still see the bodywork and so will see if any rusting is occuring. With underseal you won't know until it has already happened, and underseal can trap moisture, making things worse.

Have you seam sealed it yet ?
If not seam sealer, then gravitex , then body colour paint , oh and then wax

If you need something that doesn't need a compressor, then consider using stonechip from aerosols. Won't be as quick and easy but i used it on a pair of sills i replaced on a Citroen Xsara and it looked ok and has lasted well so far and was done almost 2 years ago

 

 

Bare in mind, that car in the photos is an old hack that has zero maintenance and has probably only been washed once or twice since the sills were done 

 

I am not totally against the tar like stuff in a tin that you brush on but it needs to be done thoroughly and carefully otherwise water will get under it and the first you will know about the rust is when it starts peeling off in large sheets leaving a horrible mess underneath which will be too late to save.

great. I will seal it with tiger seal then spay gravitex on with a gravity fed spay gun then use dynax UC.

You CAN brush on Gravitex. The product sheet says 'Apply with a clean Schutz gun or brush'.

I did a test area brushed on Felix to see how it went on. Although using a Schutz gun and compressor would give the best finish (stippled) brushing it on is ok.

You do need to stipple the paint on rather than brushing it smooth, but it ended up ok. Make sure you key the surface properly and test a small area first to ensure you dont get any reactions. Gravitex is cellulose based and the solvent can be quite agressive to underlying paints.

I would do a small test piece on it before you do the lot, It may react with the red oxide as did mine the other week , It's not fun scraping it off cleaning, resealing and then stonechipping again.
