Hi All

The threads have stripped on my gearbox sump plug drain hole during an oil change, its a 1990 mainstream cooper.

Can anyone help with or suggest a mobile thread repair place that will do an in situ repair? Ideally this would be done in my garage where the car is now to avoid having to get it trailered anywhere. The car is in Pontefract in West Yorkshire.

I do not want to take the engine out, I believe it's been done in situ successfully by others.

I don't want to fit a tapered plug either.

I hope someone can help or suggest someone who will come out??!!

Many thanks
Chris

If you cant get someone to come out and you cant do it yourself then the tapered plug could be used as a temporary fix to get you to a Workshop who can do the repair, just dont go winding it up to hard and split the casing.

Thanks KernowCooper, it may end up being the only option if I can't get a mobile repairer, that or trailering it somewhere.

I did think about repairing myself either with an oversize plug and corresponding tap or shelling out for a helicoil kit but decided that I'm not confident enough to risk it with the cost and work involved in replacing the casing if I mess it up.

Can anyone recommend a place in West Yorkshire or nearby to take it to?

Thanks
Chris

Try Ricky @ AWS (auto welding services) and is based in knottingley. spot on bloke

He used to do my mini repairs when I first got into them. Dont worry about the welding bit, he does all mechanics and hes very reasonable.

Sorry I dont have a number for him, ive lived away from castleford for 10 yrs now.

Google suggests his number is: 07788 597575

Tell him Jordon (friend of Cliff - Howecool) gave you the details. :)
