Hi all,

I'm looking to buy an engine ready to drop in, as I feel it'll be easier than buying all the bits and then find someone to build it.

Has anyone bought an engine from MiniSpeed or any of the other big companies? Their price seems to be lower than the other companies such as Swiftune but similar power output to my requirements.

Cheers

Scott

I always have had fantastic dealings with minispeed (not so much an engine unit) but various parts and advice has been great. They are very well respected company

I'm currently running in a Minispeed stage 4 1380. So far so good, there was an oil leak but they sorted it.
I also had one of their stage 3 1380's about 10 years ago in another mini. That ran well

There rolling road can sometimes be a little optimistic (great for minis!) but there engines are fine, mate had a 1330 off them for his MPi, I bought my stage 3 kit from them (my first major self mod) and it was possibly the best mod I done for it, ran spot on, always helpful on the phone if needed, had other various bits from them, some people haven't had the greatest of experience from them but I'm only talking about my perspective which is all good

Awesome, That's the engine i'm going for. Dropped them an email which they said it could run up to 120bhp depending on cam and carb chosen. What bhp is your engine running approx?

Hopefully it will be around 110bhp but I've only done 300 miles so far.
Another 1000 miles and it'll be run in, then I can give it the beans and get it on a rolling road.
If it's quick as it sounds I'll be happy!

out of curiosity, whats the spec?
Intrested in running in an engine too, nu 1330 is almost ready. Although I know that racers dont really run it in,only the cam and then give it loooots of beans..:)

It's 1380, stage 4 head, high lift rockers, 286 cam, 3.1 diff, hiff44, updated bits and pieces inside. I'm hoping it will last a while, it's not a daily drive and I won't be racing it, maybe the odd track day every so often.

I'm following minispeeds instructions for running it in, should lead to a longer life in theory! It's only just coming on cam before I have to change gear at the moment. Can't wait to actually be able to put my foot down!

Is it a standard gearbox? Or straight cut?

Standard gearbox with updated bearings etc. I wanted drivability, was advised by Minispeed this set up should give reasonable motorway cruising and acceleration. The stage 4 head should help with the power and torque a little more.
I was after a smoother (quieter) ride, I'm getting old now! Although it's anything but quiet haha

Just got off the phone with them, really happy with their service so far and the options you have with final drive, cam etc. Looks like I'll be selling everything I've bought engine-wise to fund it!
