Thanks, I've tried satin black and BMC green on other covers so thought I'd give this a try

I think the front cones should have settled enough now - I'd better adjust the rear HiLo's up a bit to level it out

A few more parts added - K&N cones as you can see, an Austin rocker cover plate - I want to get some copper rivets to secure the two plates, and the distributor housing 'O' ring.

Today I picked up my alternator bracket which has been lightened/aesthetically improved by having four holes milled through it. Now it needs polishing and re-chroming. Also the copper rivets for the Austin and Westlake rocker cover plates arrived - awaiting the setting tool.

I received some pictures from a previous owner today dated from 1997 when the car had been resprayed from it's original white.

Wow, that is a hectic transformation, I wonder if there are before/after picture threads on the forum.

Another small detail job today - I drilled out stubs of the old rivets with the help of a right angle drill adaptor and fitted my new original engine number.

The platers are going to collect the alternator bracket on Thursday for re-chroming so I ground and polished the superfluous lumps and bumps off it so it's ready to go.

The setting tool for the copper rivets arrived yesterday - I ground it back a little so it wouldn't mark the rocker plates and shortened the rivets a little after a trial one bent over rather than deforming evenly.

Even so typically the first one didn't go to plan - partly because the raised panel on the rocker cover isn't quite flat and partly because our technique needed adjusting it skewed and deformed the Austin plate around the rivet so I'll have to get a new plate and try again. The remaining rivets were perfect.Grrr!

Good question - if not perhaps there ought to be!

My alternator bracket has been returned and I'm very pleased with it! Great service from Dorsetware metal platers of Poole: collected, stripped, polished and re-chromed and delivered back to my door for £10.

The tax has run out today - the signal to start stripping the parts I need from the 998 to complete the 1275 - starter, oil pipe, temp senders, engine mounts and steady bars etc.

New speedo fitted and the engine crane I'm going to borrow is ready for collection!

Need to remove the brake servo and master and the carb and we're ready to levitate.
