My mini is very noisy and I'm planning on driving it to work now the weather is looking better so don't want head ache every time. Been looking at the silent coat stuff but can decide if I should put 2mm down or 4mm anyone used silent coat how good is it?

As Cooperman says, they're noisy. You can cut it down though using silent coat. I used 2mm on the floor to eliminate some of the resonant sounds/rattles then overlaid that with closed cell foam.

I know it's noisy but if I can make less noisy on the inside I will, did the 2mm make alot of difference?

What exhaust and air filter do you have? changing these can make a big difference.

What are you comparing it to when you say it's noisy?

It's got a rc40 and k&n don't want to make the car it's self quite love the nose just wondered if 2mm or 4mm sheets would make any difference. If the 2mm works well I'd go with them as it cheaper

It basically cut out some of the rattles and resonance. I did this as I've 4 subs under the rear seat, so not for road noise. To cut down (you won't block it as you're sat 9 inches from the road) you'll need to overlay something over the silent coat. Closed cell foam or good old carpet underlay would help (I have both).

A very good point BUT...

Products like Silent Coat WILL make a difference and there is no need for a Mini to offer as noisy a driving experience as it usually does. (That's my professional opinion.)

I am planning to use Silent Coat on the bulkheads, possibly other panels, and replace the carpet underlay with it some time over the summer. When I do, I will be measuring the before and after sound pressure levels. If you can wait, I'll be posting my results here.

Careful how thick you made the soundproofing. I used a combination of closed cell foam and underlay. After putting it all in I found the floor was now too high for the seats to lock.

it seems like a good idea untill you need to get some welding done then it all comes off again. i personally use the felts but it will always be noisey. the firewall sound deadening and the under bonnet kit work well.

+1 for underbonnet kit.

Sticking some felt sound deadening on the underside of the bonnet really helps cut the engine noise level
