Engine/transmission Paint Colors

Best Answer 90BHP , 04 April 2015 - 10:47 AM

I notice in a lot of photos that the transmission is silver/grey.  Is there a specific color for this?

Yes, it's called bare metal ;) mine currently looks amazingly shiny as it's just back from Guessworks and has been bead blasted :) Go to the full post

I have a 62' Mk1.  I was told the engine color, traditionally is "land rover bronze green" - is this similar to MOWOG green as I see sold in the US.  I notice in a lot of photos that the transmission is silver/grey.  Is there a specific color for this?  I'm not doing a rotisorie but would like to have colors match as close as possible.

I am rebuilding a 1275 after a bad head gasket.  I had to bore out the cylindars 20 over as there was a little wear from the damage.

I recently pulled my engine out for a refresh and I had a similar question. I have the transmission down to the bare case and I am wondering whether I should paint it or just clean it up and leave it bare metal. Is paint tough enough being somewhat exposed to stones and road grit? It seems like it might get chipped and end up looking shabby.

Thanks,

Chris

If the gearbox is off I would polish it up as best you can and leave it bare.

Thanks for the info.  I guess it's good news that I am down to bare metal now!

Gearbox is off and I spent a pretty thorough time with a dremel and brush.

While on paint, assuming the body is in BMC colors, can anyone help me identify which this exterior is?  Planning on painting the firewall/bulkhead a similar color while the engine is out.  It is currently black but you can see the red seeping through.

It is difficult to tell from photos, but that red does not look like it was original - it looks too bright.

As for engine colours, on a mk1 everything was green - the gearbox, flywheel housing, dynamo, thermostat housing, starter motor, eyc
