that engine i got was a sodding write off. smashed bits of piston all over the gaff and a nice sticky carbonated set of valves. chucked it but kept the ancilliaries. The gearbox was r65 so i am on the hunt for a PG1.

mate if its a 1.6 gear box it will be a R65U , which is a uprated gearbox! a very good gearbox indeed. and will put up with a lot.!

a pg1 gearbox you will need to faff around with making mounts, you have a good box there!

Hey kitch. hope to see you driving your little beast around powpey mate. The R65U is a good box indeed however it is not set up for RWD gear change mechanism from the MGF. I need to be able to do the cable gear change thing or it will not work very well.

Ted

Get back on it Andy - I am cutting my shell this weekend.

Sorry fellas, ive been really lame this holiday. I havent had any motivation to work on the car so nothings been done. Well thats a lie, i went to the scrappy and got some bolts to fit the alternator, and the starter motor, but the starter motor bolts were wrong. The exhaust is all finished tho and fully seam welded etc. and the O2 sensor boss welded in to the manifold. I bought a new O2 sensor too, and did a little bit on the wiring. In my defence i have only spent about 3 days at home where the car is kept and 2 of those days were spent out with family.

I borrowed a mates 7x13 wheel and trial fitted it on the bak. Ok so it had 185/50 tyres on, so wider than i would use, but it would still need 7" wide arches at the back :'( Can anyone suggest any mini wheels that aren't deep dish, ie have a more suitable offset. I don't want to run any metro wheels, because most of them look gash IMO. either that, or show me some pics of mini's with wheels sticking out this far and prove to me that it wont look stupid. by the way, i think i need at least 6" wide wheels as the cars gonna be looking out around 180-190bhp once its fully tuned up as i have planned.

Really cant be arsed with the car at the moment, anyone want to buy it off me? :D

Lol - thanks superted!! And your right - uni exam finals at the moment

Well ive actually done something on it a couple of weeks ago - got a mate to make me some adjustbale tie bars to lock the direction of the rear hubs. Will get them fitted at some point over summer - i need to be able to push it because ive got a job in loughborough starting in september so need to move house.

Tie bars - got the track rod end for the hub end, just need to order my rosejoints for the other end
