Hi guys

I have disconnected the wiper motor and the rack is connected to the wiper motor. A few questions regarding how to disconnect the rack as I don't think I need to buy that part. also where is the gear in the wiper motor. if I buy a new motor the gear I need to purchase separately so where would I need to connect it to. I haven't done this repair before so a little unsure as to how to do it all. a few tips and steps to follow from you guys would be much appreciated. Its a 1990 rover mini and when they worked the options were on 1 speed, or hold down and they would go 1 wipe. thanks. any pics of how to do this replacement would be great.

You are right, new motors do not come with the gear but you can most likely fit your existing gear if the condition of it is good and assuming it's that the motor that's stopped working.

To disconnect the rack, you will need to unscrew the 4 small bolts holding the face plate onto the front of the motor and then you will see a 'C' clip holding the rack arm onto the workings. Slide the clip off and the rack will disengage from the gear and you can pull the motor out. The rack will simply by slipped onto a post on the rack arm and should just pull off

part all ordered will get the gear out later. I'm hoping its the motor and not just any of the connections however I cleaned them up and it still didn't work so I assume the motor

Did you check the brushes?

also sometimes the park switch/wiring connector corrodes inside causing malfunction

I cleaned all the electrics and brushes and it still didn't work. I am waiting for the motor and removing the gear now but not sure how to disconnect the gear

On the back of the motor housing, the shaft for the large cog goes though a hole. There will be a 'c' clip on there. Remove that the the big cog will slide out of the housing.

Here is a picture of all of the component parts so you know what you are dealing with.

This is a 1978 motor but will be largely the same component wise. It's just the motor barrel thats different.
