I seem to remember a review about someone getting ripped off over an engine.

Don't know if it was the same one though?

Is Anthony James a member on here?

I don't know if Jonspeed have a bad reputation already, but on the face of it I felt that the complete lack of information provided as to the details of what happened was dissapointing. You are left with no option but to assume that somebody has decided in the course of making the program that the garage was in the wrong (OK that is implied by the fact that the court found in the customers favour) but it would have been fairer and more balanced - not to mention more informative - if we had been given more detail.

I thought I recognized that fella in the video, then when he showed you his Scalextric set in his loft I remembered I'd met him!

Thoroughly nice chap and I'm glad he got his money back.

I watched it last night. I was expecting trouble the way they were describing their last visit to them but it went quietly and smoothly.

I had some excellent dealings with Jonspeed back around 20 years ago and Jon was a nice bloke to deal with - very fair and helpful.

However, I believe he sold the business and retired and the new owners may or may not have a good reputation now.

Sad to see this sort of thing in the Mini community. They could easily have removed his engine, built it properly and refitted it, then set it up properly and it would have cost them very little when compared to what it has cost in the end, not to mention the damage to their reputation in the Mini world after that programme.

I would just like to say that I bought my first mini in August and Jonspeed have done the work needed in order to restore it. I am 17 and have sunk all the money I have into the car, this has made me quite paranoid about the slightest wrong noise in my mini. I have taken my car back to them and there mechanics have looked at it FREE of charge and done work for me Free of charge and reassured me. I have also rang often asking questions about things and have found them to be very useful and have great customer service

I'd have to say +1 to what George has said.

Not had them do any work on my mini, do it all myself, but I've been down for bits and pieces and advice a few times in the last 5 years.  Always seemed happy to help, usually have a decent price on parts too (as I can collect and not pay Postage).

Problem with all these sorts of threads all over the internet, is they just make me not want to take my car to a garage ever, :D, rather do it myself and know what's been done, :D
