1993 Rover Mini Sprite.
It’s time to sell my Mini Sprite. I have owned this car for 8 years and in that time it has had a full body and interior restoration . It has also had various mechanical upgrade and repairs.
I purchased the car in 2007 as a standard car and drove it to a few shows and events for a year. At the end of 2008 the car went into the body shop and had new front wings, front panel, scuttle, inner and outer sills, door posts repairs and a new rear sub-frame. The car was given a full re-spray. All the exterior trim, bumpers and lighting were replaced with new parts.
The interior was completely refitted at the time of the body restoration. The seats were re-trimmed by Newton Commercial in Tartan Red and black piping. Leather was used on the seat facings and a matching Monte Carlo trim set was used for the rest of the trim. Newton Commercial also supplied the black carpets and a cream crackle headlining with matching visors. The walnut dash board is from Wood and Pickett and features extra cream faced Smiths Gauges. The original gauges have had matching faces attached. The door cappings are original Rover parts, with matching walnut door furniture from Mini Spares. Completing the interior is a Custom Consoles walnut centre console and a wood rimmed steering wheel, fitted with an original Mini centre.
For entertainment there is a Sony face-off CD player, with front USB socket. This is connected to six Sony speakers, two in the doors, two in the rear shelf and two 6x9” speakers mounted under the rear seat. The 6x9” speakers are powered by a boot mounted Sony amplifier.
The engine and gearbox a standard apart from the fitting of a Stage 1 kit from Mini Sport and an SU HIF 44 carb. The Stage 1 kit consisted of an inlet manifold, K&N cone filter, Maniflow LCB and a twin centre exit Maniflow exhaust. The car was set up on the Mini Sport rolling road when the kit was fitted. The gearbox and differential have just been rebuilt as the synchros were getting tired and the diff pins were worn.
When the car was restored it had Hi-Los fitted front and rear, with KYB gas adjust shocks. A few years later the front brakes were changed to the Cooper S 7.5” type, with AP calipers, so that 10” wheels could be fitted. Currently the car is fitted with a set of freshly repainted GB 5x10” alloy wheels and a set of brand new Falken FK-07 165/70 10 tyres.
The car has just passed it’s MOT, which runs to March 2016. To pass it required a new steering rack gator, two rear wheel cylinders and a set of rear brake shoes.
Since 2009, when the car was back on the road, I have been to many, many shows up and down the UK. The car has never broken down, it uses very little oil (for a Mini), and will return 40mpg if driven steadily. You may have seen it in the past few years wearing the reg. number SWW 6G and Dunlop wheels. The plate has now been transferred, the car returning to its original number, and I want to keep the Dunlop wheels for something else, hence why the change.
At present the car is in Gloucestershire, so please PM if you have any questions and wish to arrange a viewing.
I will be taking the car to the Brooklands Mini Show on the 29th March and also have plans to visit the Pride of Longbridge show and the Lincoln Mini Day in April, so the car can be viewed at these shows.
