Timken Front Wheel Bearings Or Alternative?

Best Answer AlexMozza , 29 March 2015 - 07:08 PM

New bearings don't come with the grease/dirt seal spacer ring.

So try and clean up the old ones, or just don't fit them, just ensure the seal does not touch the bearings.

Timken themselves sound a pretty good bet going by Rob Mac's earlier post, not sure but I think Cromwell tools are also agents for Timken. Only other is Minispares, not sure about any of the others. I must admit it pays to have a look around first at old established parts suppliers/shops especially the smaller ones. Over a period of about a month I found a complete set front and back all Timken with matching spacers from 3 different suppliers I paid a total of less than £45 for all four bearing kits.

Anybody used this stuff for the driveshaft CV joints, or is something else better?

Thanks for info. I've got a number of tubs and cans that are suitable for one application but not another even though labelled much the same.

Hi Alex,

The seals were all chewed up and I don't think there were any spacer rings amongst the debris that came out.

Should I just keep the seals away from the bearings by a couple of milimitres then?

Cheers,

Adam
