Afternoon all,

Can somebody clear this up for me; what grease is needed for wheel bearings? Castrol Multipurpose (Castrol LM replacement) or Castrol High Temperature? Both products say that they are suitable for wheel bearings but the more I read around the more confused I get. Some say Castrol LM is fine, others a High Temperature grease.

Cheers,

Dave.

I hate to add to your confusion... but either should be fine.  That said, I tend to use high-temperature grease just to make me feel more comfortable.  The one bit of advice I will offer is that if you are re-packing wheel bearings, clean the old hub and bearings up to completely remove the old grease.  Avoid mixing new and old and different types of grease.

Cheers Doug. I will stick with standard Castrol Multipurpose grease then since I have a tub full of it. The bearings were new so no need to clean out any old grease. Unfortunately they have sat on the shelf for a few years and the packets of supplied grease were robbed a while ago.

Wear Nitrile gloves when you repack the bearings, do not use bare hands. The oils / sweat in your skin can cause corrosion to set in.

Cheers for the heads up. I always wear gloves when dealing with fresh Grease, can't stand the feel of it :(

I've used both and yes, either are OK on the wheel bearings for a Mini.
