Hi all , just wondered if the 1275 MG Midget engine block was exactly the same as a 1275 mini block , do you just replace sump with gearbox and clutch and drive gearing to suit, Shawbags.

No its not ... the rear bearing cap is different from what I know. You need to get a Mini block ..

Have you bought the Midget engine? May know someone that would buy it from you.

Can be modified to fit, but no not exactly the same...

Plus if you're using an engine which had a side mounted gearbox originally you will need to change the crank too... eg Maestro, Montego, Ital, Marina, midget etc etc

Best thing about Midget engines is the rods, will have 4 x AEG625 rods in there

Midget engines are harder to get than Mini ones ... They made Minis for longer and replaced the Midget with the Triumph 1500 unit ... Sad, sad day.

998 engines are pretty easy to get but 1275's are very hard to find .

I think what Guess-Works is referring to it the Midget rods (AEG-625) are one of the best without going to forged, etc. See Vizard's book page 377.
